Welcome to Tinus Steering! Your exclusive supplier of rebuild steering boxes for classic Volvo's. We have 40 years of experience in refurbishing and rebuilding steering boxes for Volvo 1800, Amazon, 1800 and 140 from all over the world. Over these decades we have seen a decline in the amount of steering boxes that are sound enough to be refurbished: in more and more cases the worm gear and/or counter gear in the steering box are worn or damaged beyond (decent) repair. Therefore we have developed brand new steering shafts with worm gear, new counter gear with shaft and needle rollers, new ball bearings for the steering shaft including new outer bearing races. All parts are manufactured with the utmost care, the highest quality of materials, and the best techniques for welding, precission grinding and hardening. We are proud to present these items to you! At this moment of time we offer these kits for LHD (steering wheel on left side of the car) only. Available are the kit for the early Amazon and 1800 (with straight shaft) and for the late 1800, including E and ES (with retractable steering shaft). We're working on the late Amazon (curved) shaft, which will be available soon.

We offer three kinds of products / services:

1) Refurbishing your steering box using your existing internal parts. The inner bearing races will be re-grinded with high precission to accept new ball bearings, new brass bushings are pressed in the housing and reaming to the size of your pitman shaft, new hardware, seals and gaskets will be fitted, and of course the housing will be blasted and the shaft and end cap will be repainted. The steering box with be carefully adjusted with the correct bearing pre-load and the correct pre-load on the worm gear and counter gear. We offer this service for both LHD and RHD steering boxes.
The price for this service is € 529 excl vat / 640 incl vat (EU).

2) Rebuilding your steering box using our full rebuild kit. The old counter gear and shaft will be removed from the pitman assembly and replaced by the new parts. The new counter gear shaft will be professionaly welded to secure it in place. Of course the brass bushings, hardware, seals and gaskets are renewed and the housing will be blasted. Finaly the steering box with be carefully adjusted with the correct pre-loads to ensure a very long life span. Note: only available for LHD (steering wheel on left side of the car).
The price for this service is € 1438 excl vat / 1740 incl vat (EU).

3) Full rebuild kit. The full kit includes a new steering shaft with worm gear, matching counter gear with shaft and needle rollers, two ball bearings for the steering shaft including outer bearing races, brass pitman arm bushes, seals, gasket and shim set. Please do note this is not a simple replacement kit and that the repair can only be caried out by an professional. We are happy to assist you, but can not be held responsible for any failures during or after the rebuild process. Note: only available for LHD (steering wheel on left side of the vehicle).
The price for the seperate rebuild kit is € 909 excl vat / 1100 incl vat (EU).
